Does Your Child Need One?Dr. Emily Lantz, a licensed clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist will partner with the NYC Chapter of Mothers and More on Wednesday, September 21 at 6:30 pm to discuss "What a neuropsychological evaluation is and how to know if your child needs one."

Dr. Lantz will review what to expect during the evaluation and how testing helps diagnosis between learning disabilities, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and other developmental or acquired brain disorders. In addition, a neuropsychological evaluation helps parents better understand their child's strengths and weaknesses, intellectual abilities and academic needs (e.g. classroom and test accommodations) by providing a cognitive and learning profile for each child. The result of the evaluation is a comprehensive written report and a thorough review of tests results during the verbal feedback session.
The annual Mothers & More Mother’s Day Campaign raises member and community awareness about key social and economic issues that affect mothers’ lives and well-being. Mother’s Day Campaign 2011 aims to activate the ways we think about our life-long financial health, empowering us to use the power of our purses more intentionally.

Purses symbolize a woman’s economic power, something we wish for all women, especially mothers in need. More than an accessory, a purse and its contents reflect the many roles and responsibilities mothers shoulder every day.

We are excited to introduce Empowered PURSE this year, a series of conversations that guides moms in a fun and unique way on our personal money journey. Power of a Purse also returns in its more familiar form: a community drive designed to draw attention to mothers’ economic issues through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers in need.
Workshop – “NO MORE LOSING IT : GETTING CALM WHEN OUR KIDS ARE NOT”

When it comes to developing great relationships and great kids we know our children need us to be cool, calm and collected. Yet the biggest challenge in parenting is being cool, calm and collected. Why is it so hard and what we can do about it?

This informative and useful workshop will focus on how to stay calm even in the most stressful moments. You will leave learning how to increase your own maturity and how to decrease your knee jerk reactions when your kids push your buttons. And, let’s face it – our buttons are getting pushed all the time because our kids are masterful at finding them. Whether it is fighting us when putting them in the car seat, throwing food off the high chair or screaming at the top of their lungs when in-laws are over, not getting to school on time or not getting college applications done, they can get our blood boiling. How we ACT when our blood boils is what we have in our control and is the key to great parenting.

Learn how to:

• Control yourself instead of controlling your kids

• Observe, think, act

• Develop and follow your principles of parenting

• Build emotional and physical stamina

• Get to your thoughts rather than to your emotions

• Think about and focus on your responsibilities as a parent

• Control the buttons that most trigger you

Respond effectively to your kids tantrums, aggression, rude behavior, sibling battles, defiance and other frustrating behaviors

The campaign was designed to raise awareness of mothers through the act of collecting new or gently used purses for mothers in need. The purse symbolizes a woman's economic power, something we wish for all women, especially mothers in need. No matter where a mother is on the social ladder, there is “power in her purse” having money of her own to provide for herself and her family.

The New York City Chapter delivered 150 pocketbooks to the YWCA of the City of New York filled with items from a Pampered Chef consultant, Barclay's & Loreal. In addition, we assembled a team of Human Resource Professionals to donate their time by providing feedback on resumes for woman struggling to find a job or get a better job than they already have (a certificate for the service was included in 50 bags). Amy Ferris author of Marrying George Clooney, www.marryinggeorgeclooney.com/blog, donated a large number of books for inclusion in the bags.

The YWCA will distribute the bags through their Women's Empowerment Network which provides women with information and resources to inspire hope and establish a sense of safety for their families

Rachel Moheban gleaned two things from her life and those around her—a curiosity for the way people related to each other and a discovery of the self-healing power of the mind. This inquisitiveness inspired her to pursue a Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University. It was not long before Rachel’s gift for providing humanistic therapy made her one of the most sought after psychotherapists in New York City.

What these fortunate clients experience is a warm, dynamic exchange between client and therapist. Rachel removes her clients’ trepidations with engaging interaction that arrives at the heart of their problems and unearths their unfulfilled dreams. Non-judgmental feedback and individualized psychodynamic techniques empower clients to conquer anxiety disorders and depression. Individual therapy is not the only thing driving Rachel’s thriving therapy practice. Top law firms, advertising firms, banks and nonprofit organizations request Rachel Moheban’s corporate counseling services. Even with this success, Rachel’s experiences as a couples therapist and her growing clientele of dating, married and same sex couples prompted the development of her next service.

Over twelve years, Rachel began to notice couples—whether they were dating, married or same sex partners—were missing a key ingredient to creating and sustaining rewarding relationships. She realized couples needed psycho-educational program to address common relationship issues such as communication problems, physical intimacy, anger and money before they arise. The psychotherapist saw the thick wall of resentment stacked between couples that waited too late to seek relationship therapy. In response to this need she created a program for couples called the “Ultimate Relationship Resolution Program”. For more information, check out the program here at:
